I’m a fair person. So I researched.

Nicki Minaj claimed she was once offered $1M for what she thought was her stake in Tidal and suggested it could’ve been worth $200M. But filings never confirmed she—or other artists—actually had ownership.

When Jay-Z relaunched Tidal in 2015, it was pitched as “artist-owned,” but records show the holding company was controlled solely by him.

Music exec Steve Stoute later said many of those artists never signed shareholder agreements, meaning their supposed “equity” may have only been symbolic.

And if Hov, the actual owner, only walked away with about $350M when Tidal was sold, how could Nicki realistically believe her cut was worth $200M?

It does sound like shady business practices on Jay’s end until you actually research. As a businesswoman, Nicki should’ve secured something legally binding to guarantee her ownership.

Also, she was not an equity partner. She was an artist partner. Significant difference
