Like most things, it's a matter of opinion, preference and who you ask. I'm what's considered "Old School" and definitely am Pro-Marriage, but don't believe in the cookie-cutter "traditional" take on it. What I mean is I don't believe in trying to make it like someone else's, no matter how Perfect you may perceive it to be. Start your own rules, what works best under your roof, with your own commitments and deal breakers. Have those open and honest communications, court each other, allow your inner child to be in the moment with your best friend, be vulnerable filled with pillow talk.
