He didn’t need to go turn himself in to make her look bad, and everyone knows that when you turn yourself in it is way better and way smarter and way more organized than allowing yourself to be arrested without expecting it. In other words, him going to turn himself in, would actually not make her look bad, and would actually be the best thing for the both of them because then he’s not getting arrested in front of his kids during a routine traffic stop
