BB jeans became a way for 1960's youth to protest the war and over consumption. They started shopping at thrift and Army Surplus stores to get their gear instead of mainstream department stores. Navy Sailors originally wore bb's because they wee were easier to navigate in & out of the water. That's how they got to the surplus stores. "We" of course, put our spin on it and wore the camo jackets, combat boots, etc because the real war was at home!
