Say what now? There's an area of study that deals in JUST trauma? The differences in generations and what's known/available always hits me like a ton of bricks. My generation is still fighting the taboo of it all. I wish someone would cover that.

I'm literally crying with this baby girl and praying feverishly for her. I wish I had the answer for her because I too live in the south. I learned very early on that no matter the amount of pain, I could NEVER show it. My family and I thought I was finally getting the surgery for my neck (I have a dystrophy with degenerative bone disease), only to be told last week the approval was reversed. The only thing they offered was the surgery to remove an inflamed, infected lymph node in my armpit. So every day, it has to be unpacked and repacked with gauze... Down to almost my breat bone. I said all that to say this: My feeling is that in this climate, where our whole medical history has been uploaded to a government website, they're using AI/doctors to determine who they feel is worthy of quality of life services. My suggestion is that if she can control how she expresses her pain, they're more willing to give her the medication to get ahead of the pain. They'll then send her home with a 'script for at least 3-4 days of oral pain relief. Once that happens, while she still has some form of pain control, find a family member in a 💙 state who is willing to assist with housing and she needs to go on "vacation" and then if she should so happen to have a health emergency, take her to the nearest hospital THERE! Her insurance should cover the emergency out of state so long as you call them on the way to the hospital, or have the financial aid department of the hospital contact her state insurance.
I have personal stories that will blow your mind at the lengths some southern hospitals will go to once they term you as a drug addict. Although your blood work can and does disprove that theory. I HATE to tell this young lady to try and control how she voices her pain. It's awful, traumatic, and shouldn't be necessary for ANYONE, but that's where we are now! I recently went to the hospital with my pain level so high that my blood pressure was 250/184, but I knew better than to make a whimper or allow a tear to fall. And once they saw the inflammatory response I was going through from my blood work, I was sick to hear their words of "praise" for how well I conduct myself in the face of my multiple health conditions and how I'm such an "inspiration" for them because I keep going and defying the odds... Especially when all I really wanted to do was beat the ish out of all of them for their condescending comments. It very much feels like a pat on the head, but the alternatives they CAN, and will come up with, is far worse! (That's another story, too)
I pray she receives the care she deserves, and not what she's gotten thus far.
